The undefeated Polish fighter returns to the promotion after fifteen months away to take on UFC veteran, Edimilson ‘Kevin’ Souza in a non-title lightweight bout.
An injury to KSW’s biggest star has forced a major reshuffle to their upcoming card in two week’s time.
Five times World’s Strongest Man, Mariusz Pudzianowski, has suffered an undisclosed injury and is unable to headline KSW 53 alongside Quentin Domingos as originally planned. A welterweight title fight between champion, Roberto Soldic, and MMA veteran, Marius Zaromskis, will now be the new main event.
Despite losing the promotion’s biggest star, KSW booked another fan-favourite in the way of two-weight champion, Mateusz Gamrot, for the show. He will return to the European promotion for the first time in fifteen months to take on the Brazilian UFC veteran, Edimilson ‘Kevin’ Souza at lightweight in a non-title bout. The organisation announced the changes by a press release sent out on Friday afternoon. KSW 53: Fight Code takes place on Saturday, March 21 from the Atlas Arena in Lodz, Poland and will be available to purchase on kswtv.com.
Gamrot (15-0, 1NC) currently holds the KSW lightweight and featherweight belts which puts him in the history books as the first fighter in the promotion to hold two titles simultaneously. ‘Gamer’ has held the lightweight championship for the last four years and defeated UFC veteran, Norman Parke, and Polish favourite, Grzegorz Szulakowski, in two of his defenses. The 29-year-old added the featherweight belt to his collection when he overcame grappling specialist, Kleber ‘Koike’ Erbst, in December 2018 but has been on a hiatus from the sport ever since.
Souza (18-5) fought in the UFC four times, picking up wins over Felipe Arantes and Katsunori Kikuno before losing to Chas Skelly in his final bout for the promotion. He then dropped a unanimous decision to Patricky Pitbull in the main event of Bellator 152 and returned to the regional scene. Souza has won his last two fights including a TKO after just eight seconds, displaying the power he has in his hands.
