Bringing you the weird and wild from the world of MMA each and every weeknight!
Welcome to Midnight Mania!
Stop me if you’ve heard this one before: Tyron Woodley doesn’t feel like he’s being treated fairly. Woodley has leveled many complaints in the direction of Dana White and UFC in the past, and the two have publicly beefed quite a bit — even while Woodley was champion! This time more than most, however, Woodley has a pretty solid point.
When Ariel Helwani posted a quote on Instagram from Israel Adesanya about his inability to finish Romero, Woodley took the opportunity to blast Joe Rogan and the UFC commentary crew for failing to critique Adesanya in similar fashion to how Woodley was trashed for his own lackluster title defenses.
The post:
To which Woodley replied, “Funny how no one got into Rogan’s ear piece, and let him know he broke the record for least amount of strikes thrown in a title fight. No shitting on their pre Madonna. Just excuses and exceptions. How convenient.”
Prima Donna misuse aside, Woodley does have a fair point. While many fans have cast blame towards Adesanya for his role in the awful UFC 248 main event, White and company have firmly aimed their ire at Yoel Romero. Romero admittedly did very little in what was likely his final attempt to capture a world title, but it’s hard to argue that Adesanya took many chances or pushed the pace. When Woodley similarly did the minimum against men like Demian Maia (the previous record for least strikes thrown in a title fight) and Stephen Thompson, Woodley was not called “smart” like Adesanya.
He was thrown under the bus immediately.
Regardless of his continuing displeasure with UFC management, Woodley will return to the Octagon on Sat., March 21, 2020 at UFC Fight Night 171 inside the 02 Arena in London, England to face Leon Edwards.

This is … technically a deadlift, though I cannot say for sure how much weight Darren Till is pulling because of all the random plates. My best guess is 210 kilograms?
Mike Perry celebrating the start of a fight camp as only he can — I wonder who “Platinum” is fighting?

Hitting a limp arm is always cool. Hitting it on a massive sumo wrestler? Ultra cool.

The problem with being so good at a technique that’s named after you is that opponents tend to know it’s coming:

Two killer knockouts (and a great story) for the price of one!

A fun piece of animation:
Midnight Music: Tonight, I learned a little bit about Dion’s 1970s recordings with Phil Specter. It’s another classic case of music ignored on release only to be positively reevaluated 20 years later, which is always pretty neat.
Sleep well Maniacs! More martial arts madness is always on the way.
