With a planned fight in May unlikely to go ahead, Dustin Poirier and Dan Hooker have agreed to fight when the coronavirus pandemic slows down.
As the coronavirus disrupts all majors sporting events, it seems Dan Hooker and Dustin Poirier may have to wait a bit longer than May for their lightweight scrap to go ahead.
A fight between Poirier and Hooker was in the works for UFC San Diego on May 16th, however due to the outbreak of the coronavirus it’s almost certain the fight won’t go ahead.
Both men took to Twitter to discuss their planned fight and wish each other well with the current pandemic affecting the whole nation.
“I’m supposed to fight Hooker in May,” Poirier wrote.

Poirier (25-6) last fought in September of last year when he lost out on lightweight gold to Khabib Nurmagomedov by way of fourth-round submission. Meanwhile Hooker (20-8) recently extended his winning streak to three with a close split decision win against Paul Felder at UFC Auckland.

UFC president Dana White, who is adamant that events such as UFC 249 will still go ahead, recently slammed the MMA media for their coverage over coronavirus concerns, labelling them as “the wimpiest people on earth.”
