Reigning UFC light heavyweight champion, Jon Jones, was arrested on Thursday (March 26, 2020) in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and charged with aggravated DWI, as well as negligent use of a firearm and possession of an open container.

Local police, which included a special DWI investigation unit, were on the scene after responding to reports of shots fired, and now bodycam footage from Jones’ arrest — which includes his field sobriety tests — has been made public.
“I was going stir crazy, I just pulled over, I was being nice,” Jones told officers just a few days after this ill-timed tweet. “I was literally going stir crazy. It was my first drive in two weeks. I saw these homeless guys, I was being nice to them. Having a conversation with them, treating them like humans.”
Jones admitted to having a drink of vodka earlier in the night, but an open bottle of Recuerdo tequila was found under his seat. In addition, a discharged bullet casing was retrieved and will undergo forensic testing as part of the investigation.
The 32 year-old light heavyweight was released from custody later that morning but will go before the judge on April 8. Hopefully for Jones’ sake, it’s not judge Charles Brown, who warned “Bones” to never come back when they last met in late 2015.
