Daniel Cormier is hoping the coronavirus pandemic ends by summer.

As one of the most competitive fighters on the UFC roster, Daniel Cormier is doing everything in his power to secure a rematch with Stipe Miocic.

‘DC’ is hoping to settle the score with Miocic in a trilogy bout, telling Bloody Elbow’s Stephie Haynes that the coronavirus pandemic that has swept the nation (and the rest of the world) will hopefully be over by late summer.

“I don’t think it’s shifted too much,” Cormier said of the Miocic rematch. “I think that we were looking at the summer, late summer, anyways. I think by late summer we should be getting back rolling as a country, as an organization. It affects the ability to go into the gym right now as I would be, but I don’t know the effects of that with some of these other things.”

If, however, the United States is still in ‘lockdown’ by the end of the year, Cormier admits he would have to hang up the gloves and call it a career.

“Yeah. This thing starts going to late fall, getting into the winter, there’s no way. I’d be done. Yeah, I think it needs to happen by the summer,” he said.

Cormier is currently tied 1-1 with Miocic. The American Kickboxing Academy (AKA) product KO’d Miocic to win the heavyweight title at UFC 226 but lost the rematch — and his heavyweight title — via fourth-round TKO in the UFC 241 main event. Cormier is currently ranked #1 in the UFC heavyweight rankings and #6 in the UFC men’s pound-for-pound rankings.
