Some revealing details about Jon Jones’ personality, including his mental health, were captured on his DWI arrest video.
The police body cam video of Jon Jones’ DWI charge generally underscored the sobriety test failure that led to the arrest. But the 13-minute clip also captured moments which showed another side of the reigning UFC light heavyweight champion.
Through his interaction with the arresting officers, “Bones” made revelations about his mental health, as well as his concerns about the possible consequences of the case. Here they are, broken down through several timestamps of the footage (H/T MMA Junkie).
0:17 – Jones admits to having a drink of “vodka.”
5:21 – “I have ADD. I get punched in the head for a living,” Jones says as he slightly struggles through the first phase of his sobriety test.
6:23 – “My short-term memory is really bad. It’s really bad.”
8:47 – “My daughter’s dyslexic,” Jones says after a misstep while counting backwards from 47 to 35. He also went on to fumble through the next test, which was to recite the alphabet from letters E to P.
10:12 – “I have anxiety. I have anxiety,” he says while being cuffed. The officer then proceeds to slap on two handcuffs to provide less restriction on Jones’ hands.
11:08 – “Would you guys just allow me to take off my hoodie? Please?”
11:23 – “Please, please, because my anxiety gets so bad…” An officer responds saying he would be allowed to do so when they get to the station.
11:46 – “Please guys. Just let me take off my hoodie. Please, I just want to get my hoodie out.” At this point, Jon’s voice seems to begin to crack as he tries to hold back emotions. The officer agrees.
12:35 – “My family, man. I’m scared for my family.”
12:59 – “Hey, is everything slower because of the Coronavirus, or what?”
13:08 – “Everything’s been going bad. I just want to be with my family,” Jones says, now overrun by emotion.
13:31 – “Sir, if it’s not too much, could you roll down the window?” Jones says as he was situated at the back seat of the police vehicle. The officer obliges.
Jones was arrested Thursday morning in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and was charged with one count of aggravated DWI (driving while intoxicated), one count of negligent use of a firearm, one count of possession of an open container, and one count driving with no proof of insurance. He was eventually released from custody a few hours later.
