The UFC light heavyweight champion’s other charges will be dropped as part of this plea deal.
UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones will not be sentenced to jail for his latest arrest.
According to a report from TMZ, Jones has pleaded guilty to a DWI charge, stemming from his March 26th arrest in New Mexico. Part of that deal includes dropping the other charges: negligent use of a firearm, driving without proof of insurance, and possession of an open container.
As for his punishment, it’s not particularly heavy. He’ll be under supervised probation for one-year, as well as “96 hours in a community custody program — which is a form of incarceration, but not in a traditional jail cell,” something similar to house arrest. He’ll have an ankle monitor on him and he won’t be able to leave his residence unless he has permission.
A judge will have to sign off on the agreement to make it official.
Lastly, Jones will have to complete 48 hours of community service, install an ignition interlock device on any vehicle he operates, and “complete a minimum of 90 day out-patient treatment, maximum fines and fees, community service and all other requirements of reporting to probation.”
Should Jones fail to comply with his sentencing orders, then state officials will seek jail time.
Last week’s incident was caught on camera through police body-cam footage, which showed Jones unable to pass sobriety tests before the arrest was made. Jones became emotional after being handcuffed, telling the arresting officer that he wanted to be with his family.
Jones was previously arrested for DUI in 2012, as well as a hit-and-run in 2015 that saw him stripped of his UFC title. No word yet on whether or not this latest incident will see him lose his belt (undisputed or interim) for the umpteenth time in his career.
