Former UFC bantamweight champion, Dominick Cruz, recently stated that he was interested in a No. 1 contender’s bout against Petr Yan for his comeback fight after spending the last two years on the injury report.
Unfortunately, Petr doesn’t feel the same way, taking to social media to say that he has no interest in beating up a television commentator.
“Fun fact: I have more UFC wins than Dominick Cruz at this point,” wrote Yan. “I’m not really interested in beating TV commentators.”
While Petr does have more wins (6) than Cruz (5) inside the Octagon, Dominick’s legacy as one of the best ever in the division has already been solidified. Cruz hasn’t been able to compete as much as he may have preferred, though, as he has been the victim of numerous injuries which have slowed his road to reclaiming the bantamweight title.
Yan, meanwhile, is undefeated since coming into the UFC and has taken out the likes of Jimmie Rivera and John Dodson. Most recently, Yan defeated Urijah Faber via knockout (see it), improving his reputation as one of the most dangerous fighters competing at a 135 pounds.
Now that Yan has taken himself out of the equation, it seems Cory Sandhagen is on deck for “The Dominator.” Assuming Frankie Edgar doesn’t come in to spoil those plans, as well.
