Welterweight veteran Erick Silva is recovering from coronavirus alongside his family.

The highly contagious coronavirus continues to spread all over the world, and an MMA fighter is now among those who have tested positive for COVID-19.

In a recent interview with Combate, Bellator welterweight and UFC veteran Erick Silva revealed that himself and his family all tested positive for the sickness and are recovering together in their home, while practicing social distancing for the past two weeks.

Other than the fighter, his wife, two sons, sister-in-law, and his in-laws all tested positive and are quarantined in their home in Rio de Janeiro. Thankfully, none of them had any more serious complications, says Silva.

“We’re all fine. Our biggest concern is lack of information and anxiety. Everyone is more at ease now. We’ve asked the people who work in the house not to come. We stayed only among ourselves for two weeks in order for it to go away. We followed the doctor’s orders.”

According to Erick, the first one in the family to show any symptoms was his five-month old son, Carlos, who showed a slight fever. Later on, Silva explains how the virus spreaded to everyone in the family, with different members exhibiting the same symptoms.

“The first one to show any signs was Carlos. He had a mild fever, but we gave him some Tylenol Baby, we spoke to his pediatrician, and it stopped right away. Kalleu, my 10-year-old, was asymptomatic. He was jumping around, relaxed, he was not a concern. After Carlos’ fever, he had some diarrhea, but he got better. We were just anxious to know, but we chose to lay low, isolated, until we understood what was going on and not panic

“The whole family caught it”. Erick continued. “I’m staying at my in-laws’ home and we wall showed symptoms. The curious thing is that we have people from all ages. From my five-month-old, my 10-year-old, to people who are 23, 35, 52 and 58. We all showed symptoms, but the biggest problem was in the beginning, when we started to show them, because we didn’t know what it was. It started with my wife. The first day she had headaches, chills, and we paid no mind. We thought it was some kind of allergy. You never pay any mind in the beginning. She couldn’t smell or taste anything. Then it was my mother-in-law, she lost the sense of smell and taste, too. Then it was me. Then everyone started having the same symptoms.”

As of this writing, Brazil has over 11 thousand confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 491 official deaths. The state of Sao Paulo is still the one with the most cases, but is followed by Rio de Janeiro in second.

Currently in his career, Silva (20-11-1 NC) is on a two-fight losing skid, with unanimous decision defeats to both Yaroslav Amosov and Paul Daley, in February and June of 2019, respectively. The 35-year-old’s last win happened in July 2018, when he tapped out Nick Barnes at LFA 45.
