Bringing you the weird and wild from the world of MMA each and every quarantined night!
Welcome to Midnight Mania!
For my money, Israel Adesanya’s masterclass performance and subsequent second-round knockout victory was perhaps the best showing of 2019. Adesanya perfectly strategized for Whittaker, countering the explosive striker’s offensive repeatedly by leaning just out of reach and cracking him with check hooks.
In the clip above, “Stylebender” practices the technique that killed the former Middleweight king previous to the actual fight. Aside from being an excellent reminder of just how game-changing and valuable good scouting can be fora fighter, the clip is quite reminiscent of when Conor McGregor was taped practicing his exact pull counter from inside the locker room before he used that punch to end Jose Aldo’s title reign.
Though plans are certainly up in the air given current circumstances, Adesanya is tentatively scheduled to face Paulo Costa at some point in the summer.

Another uniquely UFC spin on Easter:
Now that Darren Till and Mike Perry are at different weight classes, it’s time for a podcast and/or buddy cop movie with the two.
Anthony Pettis has found a way to still get his sparring practice in:
Raise your hand if your quarantine diet is … not going according to plan.
Song Yadong with the quick kicks!
Slips, rips, and KO clips
For all the negatives of quarantine life, we now know the answer to this important philosophical question.

Random Land
- For my comic book nerds, former Midnight Mania host Andrew Pearson linked me to this breakdown of the fight scenes in Netflix’s Daredevil. Check it out HERE!
I am pro “light yourself on fire for entertainment” so long as it’s filmed.
Midnight Music: I’ve been digging Brian Jonestown Massacre more as of late.
Sleep well Maniacs! More martial arts madness is always on the way.
