Angela Lee would be honoured to test her mettle against Michelle Waterson in a dream ONE Championship vs. UFC fight.

Angela Lee likes the sound of a dream match-up against Michelle Waterson.

Lee — the reigning ONE Championship atomweight titleholder — was recently asked for her thoughts on a fantasy scrap with UFC’s Michelle Waterson.

“I think that would be an awesome fight. I think the fans would definitely love it,” Lee told Bloody Elbow. “I haven’t met Michelle in person but I follow her on Instagram and I love her story and what she represents. I would love to meet her one day and it would be an honour to fight her as well. I think it would be a great fight.”

Back in 2017, Waterson argued that Lee had not proven herself to be a definitive UFC-calibre athlete, telling Channel News Asia, “She needs to prove herself.”

Lee brushed off Waterson’s remark in a later interview with MMA Junkie.

“I think a lot of the UFC fighters and a lot of the girls that come over to Singapore, they like to talk a lot. That’s what they’re supposed to do, because they’re with a different organization,” Lee said at the time. “But if you were to put us inside the cage together, I think it would be a different story.”

Since that time, ONE Championship has seen an influx of former UFC athletes including: Demetrious Johnson, Eddie Alvarez and Sage Northcutt. “Mighty Mouse” is a perfect 3-0 with his new organization; meanwhile, Alvarez is 1-1 and Northcutt is 0-1. Lee believes the mixed success of UFC fighters in ONE Championship has boosted the Singapore-based organization’s credibility.

“No one ever knows how a fight is going to turn out until it happens. Each promotion does a great job of promoting their fighters, but no one really knows how the fighters would match-up. You only see them in their own promotion,” Lee told Bloody Elbow. “That’s what everybody is so curious about.”
