When former UFC heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos posted a photo of his new physique (see it here), which is leaner and meaner than we’ve seen in quite some time, it led to the inevitable jokes about a drop to 205 pounds.

The joke may be on us.

“My main curiosity of one day making 205 is not about how I would feel at that weight, but to be able to face the man that is the greatest of the moment, Jon Jones,” Dos Santos told MMA Fighting. “Who wouldn’t like to fight Jon Jones one day? I’m no different. I would sit down with my doctors, make a plan, a strategy. I would obviously need a bit more time to make weight well, but we would make that happen.”

Or he could wait for Jones to come to him.

As much as Dos Santos is embraced by the combat sports community, the line for the reigning light heavyweight champion is already fairly long. We have Israel Adesanya looking to make history in another weight class, while Francis Ngannou wants to break “Bones” at 265 pounds.

And at the end of the day, Jones still has work to do in his own division.
