Bellator 207 took place Oct. 12, 2018 at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut. The headline bout of the evening was a Heavyweight Grand Prix semifinal between Ryan Bader (25-5) and Matt Mitrione (13-5), but in early action before the main card on Paramount Network and DAZN, two young Bantamweights tried to steal the show.

Both Alex Potts and “The Savage” Mike Kimbel came in 1-0, having recorded their only professional wins to date in Bellator MMA. Kimbel was already behind the eight ball for having missed weight one day prior, but Potts agreed to take the bout at a catchweight of 136.5 pounds and proceed anyway.

In hindsight, he probably regrets that decision.

Although Michael C. Williams dutifully announced the bout was scheduled for three, five-minute rounds, the vast majority of the allotted time was unnecessary. Kimbel had the crowd on his side as the “home town” man from Waterbury, Conn., while his rival hailed from Syracuse, New York.

He did not disappoint the locals who showed up early.

Kimbel completely derailed “Big” John McCarthy as he was trying to explain that he was in for a tougher test than his previous fight. Before he could finish the sentence, Kimbel exploded with a right hand that floored Potts and made referee Todd Anderson wave off the contest. The time of the finish? SIX SECONDS into round one.

Wow.
