Donald Cerrone will look to get some much-desired revenge against Anthony Pettis this Saturday night (May 9, 2020) at UFC 249 from inside VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida on ESPN+ pay-per-view (PPV).

It’s a rematch seven years in the making, as “Showtime” defeated “Cowboy” way back in 2013 via first round knockout thanks to a body kick Cerrone says just about knocked the liver out of his body. Years later, Cerrone is confident he can get one back against a man who he trained with a few years ago at Jackson-Wink MMA.

Before the two talented strikers meet again, take a trip down memory lane to see Pettis’ devastating body kick which not only earned him a “Knockout of the Night” bonus, but a title shot against Benson Henderson, whom he defeated seven months later at UFC 164 in his hometown of Milwaukee to become UFC Lightweight champion.

While a second win over “Cowboy” won’t net Anthony another title shot, it will give him some much-needed confidence, as he will avoid dropping his third straight bout inside the Octagon. On the flip side, Cerrone is also hungry for a win, as he has now lost three in a row, all via knockout.

Cerrone recently made an eyebrow-raising proclamation by admitting that he wasn’t mentally checked in for his fight against Conor McGregor at UFC 246 earlier this year, saying that once fight night rolled around he realized he didn’t want to be there. What resulted was a 40-second knockout defeat (see it here). An impressive outing against Pettis will prove that he still has plenty left to offer the fight game.
