Conor McGregor won’t be returning to the Octagon anytime soon.

Earlier this week, UFC president Dana White teased of a possible matchup between Conor McGregor and Jorge Masvidal on Fight Island.

“Very good point. That’s a possibility too,” White said when asked about McGregor-Masvidal.

According to ESPN’s Ariel Helwani, however, ‘there are no real talks’ regarding McGregor’s return to action just yet, with Masvidal expected to challenge Kamaru Usman for the UFC welterweight title rather than defend his BMF title against ‘The Notorious’.

“There are no real talks regarding his return to action just yet, but his head coach John Kavanagh told me that their gym, SBG Ireland, will reopen on Aug. 10,” Helwani stated. “So, some light emerges at the end of the tunnel.”

“Don’t get all excited about any rumors regarding Jorge Masvidal fighting a secret opponent or even Conor McGregor any time soon,” he added. “According to the people I’ve talked to, there has been no talk of Masvidal fighting McGregor soon or anyone not named Kamaru Usman.”

McGregor, the former UFC featherweight and lightweight champion, last fought at UFC 246, where he quickly disposed of Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone with a 40-second TKO. Masvidal, 35, hasn’t fought since he battered Nate Diaz to capture the BMF title at UFC 244.
