Check out the pro reactions to Jacare Souza’s positive COVID-19 test.
Yesterday it was announced that Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza and his two cornermen had tested positive for COVID-19 and that the MMA veteran had been removed from his middleweight bout with Uriah Hall at UFC 249.
Per the UFC, “all three men have left the host hotel and will be self-isolating off premises, where UFC’s medical team will monitor their conditions remotely and will provide assistance with any necessary treatment. There have been no other positive COVID-19 tests reported from the remaining athletes participating in UFC 249. The response to this development is indicative of the effectiveness of the health and safety measures UFC has put in place for this event.”
UFC 249 will still go ahead as planned on May 9, with Tony Ferguson and Justin Gaethje expected to meet in the main event for the interim lightweight title.
On Twitter, several pro fighters reacted to the news, with many praising the UFC’s health and safety measures while wishing Jacare the best of luck.
@JacareMMA Brother I know it sucks I’m sorry you have to go through this I am beyond devastated for the missed opportunity I wish you nothing but recovery for you and your family.

So fuckin gutted for Jacare and Hall, hoping they test after the fights are over as well. I know I’m self quarantining as soon as I get back home.

Hopefully now jacare has not infected anyone else on sight or anybody in route to go back home. That’s the hope now

Hard training is done, I’m dialed in, just hoping everything else goes as planned

Gutted to hear about @jacaremma . Hope he recovers fully and quickly. No doubt he will. Also fucking gutted about not seeing @uriahhallmma vs jacare. Would of been a interesting clash of style and a fight that was guaranteed to deliver.

And for how you media have been brown nosing the @ufc and so happy this event is going to happen. To now trying to tear them down again even after commending them for the great job they’ve done this week and best safety practices. It won’t be forgotten by me!

To be honest… I would have been more surprised in no one tested positive for #COVID19 #UFC249.

With 6 fighters in tomorrow nights card, I want to say thank you to the @ufc and @danawhite for putting on a fight, but more importantly the measures they are taking to ensure the safety of all involved.

I’m not trying to point blame at any fighter or Mgr or ufc for that matter. All I’m saying is going forward, to make these fights possible, let’s all do our part. So far ufc 249 been great outside of this. I’m grateful to get my guys going. Grateful for everyone that’s involved.

Actually makes them look better it shows that the testing works and they’re being safe by not letting him fight and they caught it before he came in contact with his opponent

Shit !!! i hope this doesn’t turn out to be a disaster. Jacare is a fit man. He will pull through I hope no one else is infected. What about his training partners ? #ufc249 https://t.co/P2bQuNnSf2
