Bellator MMA
Sabah Homasi (12-8) had been around the block a few times. “The Sleek Sheik” had already fought three times for Bellator MMA, twice for Titan FC and three times for UFC (after a stint on The Ultimate Fighter) before his promotional return at Bellator 225 in Bridgeport, Conn. on August 24, 2019. The preliminary bout with Micah Terrill (14-7) was “local flavor” pitting a guy from New Brunswick, New Jersey against one from Millersville, Maryland. No big deal.
Homasi felt otherwise and went into the bout with the intention to reassert himself as a player at Welterweight. Though he was giving up both height (6’0” to 6’1”) and reach (73” to 74”) to an opponent with a better record overall, the veteran American Top Team fighter was not going to be intimidated by the numbers — or for that matter anything else.
Referee Keith Peterson called for the bell and Mike Goldberg began to play up Terrill’s jiu-jitsu game as a black belt in BJJ, despite the fact he didn’t have a single pro win by submission then or now. That’s telling. He tried to control the center to stand and trade but Homasi absolutely DRILLED him with a right hook 14 seconds in. The sound is astounding. It’s like someone standing next to you lit a firecracker or snapped a wooden plank with a karate chop. CRACK. POW. It took Peterson three seconds to arrive, but it was OVER.
Homasi was ready to follow up on this highlight reel finish by facing Paul “Semtex” Daley at Bellator 241, but unfortunately for everyone involved fate had other plans.
