In case you were wondering how Marvin Vettori was handling the news that Karl Roberson was pulled from tonight’s UFC Jacksonville main card, I present to you footage from the host hotel, where “The Italian Dream” ran into “Baby K” earlier this afternoon.
He mad, bro.
Can’t say I blame him, either. Vettori was supposed to fight Roberson back in April, but the coronavirus pandemic forced the promotion to reschedule them not once, but twice ahead of their final destination in Jacksonville, Florida.
All that training for nothing.
“Due to medical issues unrelated to COVID-19 after his weight cut, Karl Roberson has been pulled from his Wednesday bout with Marvin Vettori at VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville,” UFC wrote in its official statement. “The UFC Fight Night card, headlined by the bout between Anthony Smith and Glover Teixeira, will proceed as scheduled with 10 bouts.”
Fellow middleweight Kevin Holland tried to sneak in at the last minute to save the bout, but that offer was nixed by Florida State Boxing Commission. No word yet on whether or not Vettori will be paid his “show” purse for making weight, though I would imagine that’s likely since the bout fell apart through no fault of his own.
