Last night (Wed., May 13, 2020), Glover Teixeira picked up his biggest win in several years by absolutely mauling Anthony Smith at UFC Jacksonville from inside Vystar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida.

Smith started off strong, showing a quicker jab and sharper boxing than at any point previous in his career. “Lionheart” really looked to dominate his foe early, sticking his opponent with straight punches repeatedly. Teixeira really didn’t throw much save some low kicks early, but it turned out he was biding his time rather than getting overwhelmed.

In the second, the momentum began to shift. Teixeira began to open up with combinations a bit more, doing a nice job of targeting the body. Smith was still winning exchanges, but it became apparent that Teixeira was rolling nicely with Smith’s strikes, whereas Teixeira’s heavy hooks were making major impact.

From the third round forward, it spiraled terribly for Smith. Teixeira hurt his opponent with an uppercut and hook, causing Smith to hit the mat face-first. For much of the remainder of the fight, Teixeira was in top position, hammering away with thudding shots that were especially loud in the empty arena.

By the end of the fight, Smith was loosing teeth. The referee finally called it off in the fifth, long after Smith was no longer effective.
