“A main event almost sounds right. It sounds like something that should probably get done. We’ll see.”
Fresh off his sensational first-round knockout of Eddie Wineland at UFC 250, surging bantamweight Sean O’Malley is ready to take the UFC by storm.
The 25-year-old talent is undefeated after twelve professional fights and, with a bevy of post-fight bonuses to his name, O’Malley feels he’s ready for a headlining slot in his next bantamweight bout.
“It’s kind of up to the UFC. A main event almost sounds right. It sounds like something that should probably get done. We’ll see. Hopefully I’ll sit down with (matchmaker) Sean Shelby and we’ll figure out what’s next, but hopefully a main event sounds nice,” O’Malley told reporters at the UFC 250 post-fight press conference (h/t Matt Erickson and Ken Hathaway of MMA Junkie).
As one of the hottest prospects in the UFC, O’Malley wants to get paid what he feels he’s worth.
“I’m not asking for a lot, what I was asking for is still less than everyone made tonight, so I just want it to be fair. I was supposed it renegotiate it after I knocked out Jose [Quinonez], and it sucks that I even have to bring that stuff up and it has to be about money. I just wanna get paid what I feel I’m worth.”
O’Malley, who trains out of MMA Lab in Phoenix, Arizona, is one of the most exciting fighters in the bantamweight division and has won his last two fights via first-round KO.
