Herbert Burns showed why gripping the fence with your toes is not a good idea.
This weekend — at UFC 250 — Herbert Burns followed in his older brother’s footsteps by impressing at the UFC Apex. However, for the younger Burns, his own footsteps that night were pretty bloody.
At UFC 250 ‘The Blaze’ made short work out of Evan Dunham. The Brazilian bested him, with a rear naked choke, after just one minute and 20 seconds. That took his UFC record to 3-0 (including a win on the Contender Series) and his overall record to 10-2. Just a week prior Gilbert Burns beat-up former welterweight champion Tyron Woodley to become the number one contender at 170 lbs.
So it’s been a stellar seven days for the Burns bros. The worst that happened to them, though, was a nasty injury Herbert suffered during the bout with Dunham.
UFC consultant physician Dr. Greg Hsu shared the gory details on his twitter. If you want to see it, scroll down now. Be warned, though – it’s graphic and gross.

UFC Safety Tip: The Rule is dont insert anything in the fence. Why cuz it will tear ur stuff. This rarely happens tho #UFC250 pic.twitter.com/ll8jzsH5J2

Accompanying his tweet Hsu wrote, “UFC Safety Tip: The Rule is dont insert anything in the fence. Why cuz it will tear ur stuff. This rarely happens tho.”
Despite its graphic nature the injury to Burns’ wound appears more superficial than anything else. It seems unlikely that the injury, now closed with stitches, would keep Burns out of action for very long, if at all.
