Dana White had some strong words for those who criticised UFC Vegas 2.
The strength of the UFC Vegas 2 card this past weekend faced some criticism, but according to Dana White if you’re an actual fight fan you’d watch all the fights.
Cynthia Calvillo was headlining the card in her very first fight at 125-pounds against Jessica Eye, meanwhile there were rare main card appearances for the likes of Kevin Aguilar and Mark De La Rosa. With the card lacking any big names or star power, its strength faced some heat before it took place.
The best fights on the card took place on the prelims, with the first three fights combined lasting less than two minutes. However, the criticism UFC Vegas 2 faced wasn’t mainly about the quality of the fights, instead the quality of fighters on the card.
“How many bad cards have we had in 20 years?” White said. “I can count on one hand. Listen, not every fight is for everybody. Don’t watch this one, watch the next one. Don’t watch the next three, watch the one after that. Believe me, we have got nothing but fights going on all this summer.”
The main event between Calvillo and Eye was fairly uneventful, with little action taking place as Calvillo won a unanimous decision. Elsewhere on the main card, Marvin Vettori finally got his fight with Karl Roberson, winning by first-round submission and Andre Fili won a split decision against Charles Jourdain.
“If you don’t like it don’t watch it. This card sucks? No cards suck. If you’re a fight fan you watch all the fights.”
The UFC will host their third card at their Apex facility this Saturday, June 20th. A heavyweight fight between Curtis Blaydes and Alexander Volkov will headline the card.
