Curtis Blaydes has been on a tear pretty much since making his pro mixed martial arts (MMA) debut in 2014. In fact, had it not been for running into hard-hitting No. 1 contender, Francis Ngannou, Blaydes would be undefeated and in line for a shot at the title.
Nevertheless, “Razor” is still doing big things, winning three straight and seven of his last eight. One of his most impressive victories during that span was his knockout performance over former division champion, Junior dos Santos.
Earlier this year, the two big men squared off in the main event of UFC Fight Night 166. In what was a predominantly standup affair, Blaydes proved to be the aggressor throughout the fight. At the start of round two, Blaydes tagged Junior with a vicious right hand that rocked the Brazilian bomber. From there, Curtis piled on the punishment with knees to the body, finishing him off with one unanswered shot after the other.
Now, Blaydes will look to cement his shot at the 265-pound title by attempting to get his fourth straight win against Alexander Volkov in the main event of UFC on ESPN 11 this Sat. night (June 20, 2020) in Las Vegas, Nevada.
