UFC president Dana White isn’t sure what’s next for Anderson Silva.
UFC legend Anderson Silva, 45, has just two fights left on his contract, and Dana White doesn’t know what to do with the former UFC middleweight champion.
Silva has flirted with Conor McGregor and Anthony Pettis as possible opponents, but White doesn’t appear interested in either of those matchups.
Speaking to ESPN’s Brett Okamoto in a recent interview, White said that there’s ‘a lot of things that goes into the decision-making process’ and explained that he will sit down with Silva to discuss his future in the coming weeks.
“I don’t know,” White said (h/t BJPenn.com). “I honestly don’t know what to do with his last two fights. When Anderson’s really ready to fight, we’ll sit down and look at it, and we’ll figure out what we thinks makes sense for him next. There’s a lot of things that goes into the decision-making process with an Anderson Silva. His age, what he gets paid – all that stuff’s important.”
White reiterated that he isn’t ‘crazy’ about Silva vs. Pettis and hinted that there are bigger fights available for Anderson at this late stage in his career.
“I’m not crazy about it,” White said. “You’ve got a guy that fought at 145 pounds and a guy that’s in the conversation for the GOAT at 185 pounds and walks around at 210, 215. It’s not a big fight that really means something. I like making fights that mean something, so I’m not crazy about that fight.”
Silva is currently the oldest fighter on the UFC roster and has won just one fight in his last eight, with many fans calling for the Brazilian to retire. ‘The Spider’ last fought at UFC 237, where he suffered a first-round TKO loss to Jared Cannonier after suffering a leg injury in the first round.
