In the main event of UFC Vegas 3, Curtis Blaydes won a unanimous decision against Alexander Volkov.
Curtis Blaydes used his wrestling to dominate Alexander Volkov in the main event of UFC Vegas 3, winning a unanimous decision (49-46, 48-47, 48-46).
What was the high point of the fight?
Blaydes showed within the first ten seconds exactly what his gameplan as, as he shot in and secured his first takedown of the fight. “Razor” continued to just pull Volkov down to the ground whenever he tried to stand up, landing any sort of ground and pound he could in the process.
Volkov tried desperately to avoid the takedowns and put something together on the feet. At the end of the fourth Volkov landed a flurry and a takedown of his own. It seemed the tide was turning entering the fifth round, but Blaydes held on strong to see the fight out in his favour.
Where do they go from here?
Blaydes made clear on Twitter earlier in the week exactly how this fight was going to go, and he was right. The win means Blaydes has now won four straight, with his only two losses in the UFC coming both to Francis Ngannou. It makes sense for Blaydes to sit and wait for the winner or loser of Stipe Miocic vs. Daniel Cormier for the title.
It’s a frustrating loss for Volkov, who just couldn’t keep Blaydes off him the whole fight. The Russian has now lost two of his last three fights after winning six straight in the UFC. Maybe matching up Volkov with Walt Harris is a good fight to make given they are both coming off losses.
Watch it now, later or never?
It wasn’t an exciting fight, you’re not missing anything by not watching it.
