UFC lightweight newcomer Max Rohskopf made his Octagon debut on less than a week’s notice after Joe Solecki was bounced from last weekend’s fight card in Las Vegas. His assignment? Take on hot-and-cold veteran bruiser Austin Hubbard.

After two rounds of getting knocked around by “Thud,” the previously-undefeated Rohskopf decided he had taken enough abuse and quit on his stool, despite some pushback from coach Robert Drysdale.

No. 5-ranked lightweight contender Dan Hooker was greatly amused.

“How do you get into the UFC without realizing you’re made of marshmallows?” Hooker tweeted — then deleted — on social media.

UFC President Dana White came to the defense of Rohskopf and if we can cut the machismo bullshit for a minute, quitting on the stool is no different than tapping to a submission. The point of surrender is to avoid unnecessary damage and let’s face it, pride is a poor substitute for intelligence.

Hooker, meanwhile will prove what he’s made of when he battles former title contender Dustin Poirier in the UFC on ESPN 12 main event this Sat. night (June 27, 2020) inside UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada.
