Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) bantamweight prospect Sean O’Malley broke into the Top 15 at 135 pounds with his scintillating knockout win over Eddie Wineland at the UFC 250 pay-per-view (PPV) event earlier this month in Las Vegas.
Wineland struggled with the reach of O’Malley, which clocks in at 72 inches and gave “Sugar” an advantage in all four of his Octagon appearances. That doesn’t seem to bother top contender Petr Yan, who is no stranger to long, lanky frames.
“I did boxing for eight years and during that time I’ve beat up as many lanky long dudes as you have hairs on your head curly boy,” Yan wrote on Twitter. “Use your long arms to stick it up right into your asshole. Your reach will be useful only for that.”
While Twitter trash talk is nothing new in combat sports, it seems a bit strange that Yan is going after O’Malley. Especially when you consider that “No Mercy” (14-1) is already booked to compete for the bantamweight title at UFC 251 on July 11 in Abu Dhabi and O’Malley is only ranked No. 14 in the 135-pound division.
“I’ve been makin’ lil’ dudes like you snore since I was 15,” O’Malley replied.
Perhaps “Sugar” (12-0) is living rent-free in Yan’s head or the Russian bruiser is disinterested in hyping his showdown against the quiet-but-deadly Jose Aldo. Either way, it would not come as a surprise to see these two hook ‘em up at some point in the very near future.
