Amanda Ribas just hit a first-round armbar on Paige VanZant to open up the UFC 251 PPV main card.
The UFC 251 PPV main card just opened up with the UFC’s #14 ranked strawweight, Amanda Ribas, hitting a first-round armbar submission on the ever-popular, Paige VanZant. Ribas pressed forward right away, initiating a clinch and and hitting a head and arm throw. From the headlock position, Ribas transitioned to the back and immediately attacked an arm. PVZ tried to fight it off but Ribas had all of the leverage and started to crank away. PVZ had no choice but to tap and save the arm.
Ribas has now won all four of her UFC bouts as she continues to climb up the rankings. This bout was at flyweight, and it’s likely she’ll return to strawweight for her next bout.
As for PVZ, this was the final fight of her UFC contract, so she is now legally allowed to test the free agency market. It is unlikely that the UFC will have any interest in re-signing her.
