Did someone put something in the water in Abu Dhabi? We are five fights in to the UFC on ESPN 13 event on “Fight Island,” and we have four finishes already.
Lerone Murphy kept it going by scoring a first-round technical knockout win over Ricardo Ramos in the very first round. The action got off to a furious start thanks to both combatants’ aggressiveness. Ramos had success early on, using his reach to his advantage, clipping Murphy with some knees to the head on a couple of occasions. Not one to be rattled, Murphy kept firing back, scoring a takedown with 90 seconds left in the fight.
From there, Lerone started dropping down some bombs, clipping Ramos on the chin repeatedly. At one point, it seemed as if Ramos was out, drawing a reaction from Michael Bisping and Jon Anik. Ricardo kept fighting, though the finish would come a few moments later, as “The Miracle” put his foot on the gas and started unleashing one heavy shot after another until the referee on duty had no choice but to put an end to the bout.
We are not even into the main card yet, and Dana White and Co. already have several finishes to consider for “Performance of the Night” awards.
