Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) champ-champ Daniel Cormier will step into the Octagon one final time this Sat. night (Aug. 15, 2020) to take on current Heavyweight champion, Stipe Miocic, in the main event of UFC 252 inside UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada exclusively on ESPN+ pay-per-view (PPV).
The series is tied at one apiece with “DC” knocking out Miocic at UFC 228 back in 2018 to become the promotion’s latest dual-division champion, while Stipe got his revenge at UFC 241 a year later, also via knockout (KO). And that’s where this week’s flashback takes us, as we revisit the rematch between the two talented champions.
Things started off pretty even throughout the first couple of rounds. That was up until Miocic found a weakness in Cormier’s amour: Body shots.
Once Miocic saw Cormier didn’t like him digging to his body, the world champ starting doing just that, tagging the former Olympian repeatedly with one body shot after another. After softening the body up, Miocic tagged “DC” with a straight right, rocking the former Light Heavyweight king. Once dazed, Miocic piled on the punishment to the tune of 10 unanswered blows to put an end to the fight.
Now, the two men will put their rivalry to bed with this much-anticipated trilogy championship fight. Of course, should Cormier leave the sport on top that means Miocic could very well see himself in another title fight for the vacant strap by the end of the year. So win, lose, or draw, it seems Miocic is once again on a collision course against Francis Ngannou.
