Once paired against Jeremy Stephens, Edson Barboza will now reportedly meet prospect Sodiq Yusuff.
Seasoned veteran Edson Barboza has had a change of opponents for his second fight at featherweight. Previously paired up against heavy-hitter Jeremy Stephens for a battle on October 10, the muay thai specialist will now take on rising prospect Sodiq Yusuff on the same day, Combate reports.
In desperate need of a win, Edson Barboza (20-9) will try to recover from the first ever three-fight losing skid of his career. With losses to Dan Ige, Paul Felder and Justin Gaethje, the 34-year-old’s last victory dates back to December 2018, when he TKO’d top lightweight Dan Hooker.
Still undefeated in the UFC, Sodiq Yusuff (11-1) will look for his fifth straight win in the Octagon. In his last outing, the 27-year-old defeated Andre Fili via unanimous decision, back in January. Before that, ‘Super’ also picked up wins over Gabriel Benitez, Sheymon Moraes and Suman Mokhtarian. His last and sole defeat happened in December 2017, when he was knocked out by Luis Gomez at Titan FC 47.
Now, Edson Barboza is expected to take on Sodiq Yusuff at UFC Fight Night 180, on October 10, in a location yet to be determined. So far, the only other fight linked to the card is a middleweight bout featuring Brazilian jiu-jitsu world champion Rodolfo Vieira, who is scheduled to take on fellow countryman Markus Perez.
