“I feel like I have a lot more in me. I enjoy fighting. When I’m in the gym, I’m still the best motherf**ker there.”
Luke Rockhold was non-committal about retirement because he knew he would one day get the itch to fight again.
Rockhold announced that he would be taking a much-needed break from the sport following his knockout loss to Jan Blachowicz at UFC 239, but the former middleweight champion is getting ready to mount a comeback.
After spending a year on the sidelines, Rockhold admitted that he got a little bored — especially with the COVID-19 situation — and felt the urge to start competing again.
“The world’s f**king boring,” Rockhold told MMA Fighting in a recent interview. “I need some more excitement. Kind of really comes down to that. Options are limited and I do miss fighting.
“Fighting is a part of me, and I still have a lot left in me, and the world’s f**king boring and I need something more.”
Rockhold will be making his UFC return on the back of two consecutive KO losses to Blachowicz and Romero but the former multi-promotion champion is confident in his ability to compete at the highest level and says he’s still the ‘best motherf-cker’ in the gym.
“I feel being healthy and with a clear mind with nothing on my shoulders, I’m a problem for every one of these guys,” Rockhold said.
“I’m not done. I don’t feel like I’m done. I feel like I have a lot more in me. I enjoy fighting. When I’m in the gym, I’m still the best motherf**ker there. “It’s about fighting, stepping into that cage with a clear head and healthy body and taking out whoever’s in front of me.”
Rockhold has called for a rematch with Chris Weidman, but ‘All-American’ doesn’t appear interested in the matchup.
