“Three years ago today, I carried Floyd for his final boxing match. Wow, time flies when you’re stacking cheddar.”
Yesterday, Aug. 26, marked the three-year anniversary of Conor McGregor’s historic boxing match with Floyd Mayweather Jr. in 2017.
McGregor had some early success against Floyd in the opening rounds but was finished with a barrage of punches in the 10th round.
Despite the result, the former UFC featherweight and lightweight champion claims that he ‘carried Floyd’ for most of the fight.
“3 years ago today I carried Floyd for his final boxing match. Wow time flies when you’re stacking cheddar. Happy retirement champ,” McGregor posted on Instagram yesterday.
‘The Notorious’ has previously stated his desire for a rematch with Mayweather but ‘The Best Ever’ doesn’t appear interested in the matchup.
McGregor, 32, retired [again] earlier this year but recently hinted at a comeback on the four-year anniversary of his 2016 epic with Nate Diaz at UFC 202, which saw the Irishman walk away with a majority decision win.
“4 years ago today!Backstage waiting to go out for one of the biggest bouts of my fighting life! McGregor/Diaz II Wow!Maybe there is more…”
McGregor who, despite being retired is still listed in the official UFC rankings, hasn’t fought since his stunning 40-second TKO of Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone at UFC 246.
