“Dana White says Daniel Cormier informed the UFC today to remove him from the USADA testing pool and to remove him from the rankings to make his retirement official,” MMA Fighting’s Damon Martin reported on Tuesday evening.
Cormier, who went into his trilogy bout with Miocic at UFC 252 tied one apiece, was hoping to retire with the heavyweight title back in his possession but found himself on the wrong end of a unanimous decision. The Olympian gave full credit to Miocic for the win and said the two-time heavyweight champion was the better man on the night.
“I thought he won the fight. I don’t think with the way judging is you’re hopeful after, but the reality is he won the fight. He did a good job. He deserved to get his hand raised on that night. He won the fight.”
Cormier retires with a professional record of 22-3 (1 NC) and is widely considered one of the greatest mixed martial arts fighters of all time.
