Charles Oliveira is out of his fight with Beneil Dariush next month.
A fight between two in-form lightweights has been scratched, as Charles Oliveira is out of his fight with Beneil Dariush on October 3rd.
Dariush revealed the news on his Instagram account Monday. The UFC is yet to make an official announcement regarding the fight between two talented grapplers.
“After my fight with Scott Holtzman, the UFC offered me a fight with Charles Oliveira on Oct 3rd,” Dariush posted. “I accepted and so did Charles. I did not announce it because I was waiting on the UFC to announce it and I would follow. I [have] been informed Charles is out of the fight. I am not sure on the details but I hope all is well with Charles. I am currently working with the UFC to figure out our next step. I will keep you all posted on the details. Finally, even though the fight did not come to fruition I want to thank the UFC, Sean Shelby, and my brother Ali Abdelaziz for setting this up.”
Dariush (19-4-1) is just shy of breaking into the top-ten of the lightweight division. The Iran-born American is unbeaten in two and a half years. Four of his last five wins come by finish, with the most recent being a spinning backfist KO against Scott Holtzman in August.
Oliveira (29-8, 1NC) hasn’t lost a fight since December 2017. “De Bronx” also hasn’t seen the judges’ scorecards in six years, finishing his last seven opponents in the Octagon. Oliveira’s most recent win was a third-round submission of Kevin Lee in March.
The UFC event on October 3rd, which is currently without a location, will be headlined by a women’s bantamweight fight between Holly Holm and Irene Aldana.
