It sounds like a top flight lightweight action fight is headed to Las Vegas on an upcoming Fight Night card this November 7th.
Dustin Poirier vs. Tony Ferguson may have died in the negotiation stages, but it sounds like the UFC has another match-up between top ranked lightweights set for this fall. MMA Junkie reports that the promotion is looking to book a fight between Carlos Diego Ferreira and Drew Dober for their November 7th Fight Night card in Las Vegas.
Ferreira (17-2) currently sits at #8 in the lightweight division and will enter this bout on a six fight win streak, including recent back-to-back-to-back victories over Rustam Khabilov, Mairbek Taisumov, and Anthony Pettis. His conquering of the former lightweight champion, via second round submission, is pretty clearly the crowning achievement of Ferreira’s career so far. This match-up against Dober was originally set for May 2nd’s Hermansson vs. Weidman event in Oklahoma, unfortunately that entire card was scrapped due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Dober (23-9) is currently on his own impressive three fight win streak, with all three victories coming by way of knockout. Most recently he picked up a second round KO over Alexander Hernandez at UFC Fight Night: Smith vs. Teixeira on May 13th. On the back of that win, Dober captured the #15 spot in the ranking. A win here would likely move him close to the top 10.
A headliner for the November card has yet to be announced, although a re-booking of the planned strawweight fight between Claudia Gadelha and Yan Xiaonan has also been penciled in for the event. Junkie reports that, while no venue has been made official, the card is likely to take place at the UFC Apex facility.
