“We’ve spoken to some of the people over there in very, very early conversations. WWE is a company I’ve watched and loved my entire life.”

Daniel Cormier may be embarking on a new career with the WWE, as the retired UFC heavyweight revealed in a recent interview with Sports Illustrated that he is in ‘very early conversations’ with the premiere professional wrestling league over a commentary gig.

Cormier currently serves as a commentator for the UFC but the former two-division champion and lifelong professional wrestling fan said it has always been his dream to work for the WWE.

“We’ve been talking,” Cormier said. “We’ve spoken to some of the people over there in very, very early conversations. WWE is a company I’ve watched and loved my entire life. Put me at the commentary table. Let me call the matches for six months and tell you how great these wrestlers are in the ring. I would love that, and I wouldn’t be faking it. WWE is something I’ve loved my entire life.”

Cormier was expected to fight WWE superstar Brock Lesnar under the UFC banner, but the fight never came to fruition. If all goes well in the WWE commentary booth, however, ‘DC’ could one day end up fighting Lesnar in the wrestling ring.

“Then, after those six months, what if I’m sitting next to Michael Cole, and Roman comes over and smacks the microphone out of my hand?” Cormier said. “But I’m an announcer. Will I hit him back? Then you’re asking if this will happen or not. That’s what I want, that slow build, the type of story you want to see, and your heart feels like it’s going to explode while you’re waiting for it. Give me the slow build, let it simmer.”

Cormier retired from MMA with a professional record of 22-3 (1 NC) and is widely considered one of the greatest fighters in UFC history.
