UFC Vegas 11 results: Covington dominates Woodley, wins via injury TKO

Colby Covington just dominated Tyron Woodley before winning via injury TKO in the fifth round of the UFC Vegas 11 main event.

The UFC Vegas 11 main event was where the company’s #2 ranked 170-pounder, Colby Covington, completely owned the former welterweight champion, Tyron Woodley, for four full rounds before scoring a fifth-round TKO via injury. Covington won the standup battle, the clinch war, and also dominated from the top position with ground strikes before a rib injury caused Woodley to verbally tap. Colby is back in the win column after falling short to Kamaru Usman in their epic war last decision, while Woodley has fallen extremely far from grace.

Woodley pressed forward to get things going but Covington blasted a takedown into the full guard. Woodley worked back to his feet without absorbing much of any damage. Covington then pressured behind his strikes, backing up Woodley to the cage as the former champ is known to do. From the clinch, Covington landed a set of hard elbows that seemed to briefly stagger Woodley, and were also the best strikes of the round.

It didn’t take very long for these welterweights to clinch up in the second round, and Woodley’s back was to the cage. Colby worked for the takedown, but had to fight through a standing guillotine attempt instead. In open space, it was Covington that was cranking out the volume. Well, it was Colby in open space and Woodley comfortably putting his own back to the cage, while landing a couple of counters.

An accidental eye poke to Woodley brought a pause to the fight 20-seconds into the third round. After some time, the fight got back underway and Covington went back to grinding on the former champ against the fence. There was a little jockeying for position going on, but more often than not it was Colby in control.

Colby marched forward behind his strikes in the fourth round, and once again hunted for a takedown against the cage. Woodley fought it off at first with a guillotine attempt, but Covington persevered and put Woodley on his back. A bunch of strikes dropped down and for an extended period of time, splitting Woodley wide open in a dominant round for Covington.

Woodley suffered a rib injury while going for a guillotine in the 5th round, which turned what looked to be a one-sided decision loss into a stoppage loss instead.
