Tyron Woodley suffered a rib injury as Colby Covington picked up a fifth-round TKO at UFC Vegas 11.
A rib injury to Tyron Woodley meant Colby Covington picked up a fifth-round TKO win in the main event of UFC Vegas 11.
What was the high point of the fight?
Woodley opened up the first round with lots of feints, backing up Covington against the fence with forward pressure. Covington landed a takedown half way through the first round but Woodley managed to get back to his feet quickly. An eye poke from Covington at the start of the third round briefly halted the action. Covington again found success forcing Woodley against the fence and landing short shots in the clinch.
A head kick from Covington started off the fourth round but Woodley shook it off. Covington opened up a cut on the eye of Woodley with some hard punches on the ground and continued to dominate throughout the round. Covington landed a takedown in the fifth round whilst Woodley held on to his neck, and after Covington tried to move on the ground Woodley hurt his ribs and the fight was stopped due to his injury.
Where do they go from here?
Following the win Covington called out Kamaru Usman and Jorge Masvidal for a fight. “Chaos” might need another win before he gets a title shot, so maybe he waits for the winner of Usman vs. Gilbert Burns next, presuming Burns gets the next shot at the title.
The loss means that Woodley has now lost his last three fights, not winning a single round in any of the losses. “The Chosen One” is in a very difficult position after the loss and given the injury he suffered in the fight, it’s too soon to play matchmaker for him.
