Three years after their first fight, Marvin Vettori will rematch Omari Akhmedov at UFC 256.

Marvin Vettori’s frustration over being unable to find an opponent has come to an end, as the Italian is scheduled to rematch Omari Akhmedov at UFC 256.

MMA Junkie first reported the news, but the UFC is yet to confirm the matchup. Vettori and Akhmedov first met in December 2017 when the two fought to a majority draw at UFC 219.

Vettori (15-4-1) hasn’t lost a fight since dropping a split decision to current middleweight champion Israel Adesanya in 2018. The 27-year-old had a successful 2019 winning decisions against Cesar Ferreira and Andrew Sanchez. Vettori last fought in June of this year, submitting Karl Roberson in the first round.

Akhmedov (20-5-1) fought last month at UFC Vegas 6, losing a unanimous decision to former champion Chris Weidman. The loss was Akhmedov’s first in four years, picking up decision wins against the likes of Tim Boetsch and Abdul Razak Alhassan during his six-fight unbeaten run in the UFC.

UFC 256 takes place on December 12th and will likely feature two title fights. Kamaru Usman is targeted to defend his welterweight title against Gilbert Burns, while Amanda Nunes will put her featherweight belt on the line against Megan Anderson.
