Former bantamweight champions going down to flyweight to try to usurp the 125-pound throne hasn’t really been working out over the last few years, which is probably why Cody Garbrandt is getting “No Love” from the MMA sportsbooks.
Or maybe losing three of his last four has something to do with it.
Either way, BetOnline.ag pegged Garbrandt (12-3) as the +185 underdog against reigning flyweight kingpin Deiveson Figueiredo (19-1), a -235 favorite for the UFC 255 pay-per-view (PPV) event on Sat., Nov. 21, 2020 inside APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Garbrandt, 29, bailed on the bantamweight division — where he previously held a world title — after stopping Raphael Assuncao at UFC 250 back in June. Figueiredo, 32, captured the vacant 125-pound strap with a devastating finish over Joseph Benavidez last July.
It’s not outrageous to suggest Garbrandt is a muscled-up flyweight while Figueiredo is a natural bantamweight killing himself to make the 125-pound limit, so “No Love” may have no advantage on fight night.
We’ll find out in less than two months.
