Jon Jones and Israel Adesanya have escalated their Twitter beef over the last 24 hours – and it’s getting pretty personal.
UFC middleweight king Israel Adesanya and top-ranked P4P fighter Jon Jones have been chirping back and forth on social media for many months now. But since Adesanya destroyed Paulo Costa at UFC 253 last weekend, the chatter has ramped up from both men. And it’s getting a little personal.
Jones decided to Tweet about Adesanya’s father, which in turn led Adesanya to respond with a comment abut Jones’ mother, who passed away in 2017:
I’m curious to hear what his father tells him when he asks about fighting me. I wonder if his father believes he’s ready? Eugene definitely doesn’t

My pops already told me how I’d beat you. Trust me he knows.
Your mom would be disappointed in who you’ve become. https://t.co/CGGykYXSNn— Israel Adesanya (@stylebender) October 1, 2020
Adesanya then kept going, taking a shot at Jones for some of his past indiscretions:
So to get ahead of all the bullshit coming. My statement below.
Lol if Jones has this much knowledge about the fight game and fame game he woulda known not to run back to the car to get the money and coke. Dumbass. pic.twitter.com/pJnNTGqsNV— Israel Adesanya (@stylebender) October 1, 2020
Lol remember when they said my beef with Paulo was fake? #member #onlythingfakeisjonjonespersonality

Then it was Jones’ turn to respond. And he mostly took the high road, somewhat surprisingly:
Sitting with tens of millions of dollars, children on fire about Jesus Christ, one of the greatest martial artist and world history. Sure my mom is disappointed ??? why you mad bro?

My mother was an amazing humanitarian. I know for a fact that the care project makes her more proud than anything I’ve done in the UFC.

Izzy thanks for giving me the opportunity to highlight my amazing mother this afternoon, now I’m just missing her. Are we still on for 2021?

Jones recently vacated his light heavyweight title to pursue a future at heavyweight. Jan Blachowicz won that vacant title in the UFC 253 co-main event. It doesn’t seem super likely that Adesanya and Jones will ever step into the Octagon to match up, considering the size difference between the two (and with Jones getting even big for that heavyweight run).
But that won’t stop them from continuing to go after each other on social media.
