Paul “Semtex” Daley’s next fight will be his last.
Bellator veteran Paul Daley has announced his next fight will be his last after a bad weight cut forced him out of a fight with Derek Anderson earlier this week.
Daley (42-17-2) was scheduled to take on Anderson in the main event of Bellator 247 in Milan, Italy on Thursday but “Semtex” pulled out of the fight after a bad weight cut. The Brit fell ill and weighed in 1.6 pounds over the welterweight limit, which forced his fight with Anderson to be cancelled.
Daley took to Instagram to explain why his last fight in Bellator will take place at a catch weight of 175-pounds.
“Forever a samurai,” Daley wrote. “But soon we will put the blade to rest. After discussions and careful consideration with my family, it has been decided that my next fight [in Bellator] will be my last. To be fought at a catch weight of 175lbs. Opponent and location to be confirmed. Health before Wealth, and NEVER COMPROMISE YOURSELF.”
Daley has gone 7-4 since rejoining Bellator in 2015. The hard-hitting welterweight has picked up knockout wins against the likes of Brennan Ward, Lorenz Larkin and Saad Awad during his current stint for Bellator. The 37-year-old has fought for the UFC, BAMMA and Strikeforce during his career in which he has fought a total of 60 times over 16 years.
