Next weekend’s (Sat., Oct. 10, 2020) UFC Fight Island 5 event has suffered a setback after Alejandro Perez tested positive for COVID-19. That’s according to a report from Milenio (via Bloody Elbow), who revealed that one of Perez’s pre-fight test came back positive, forcing him out of his scheduled Bantamweight bout against Thomas Almeida.
While not yet announced by the promotion, it seems wheels are in motion to find late replacement willing to step in to face Almeida on short notice. Speaking of which, Kyler Phillips knocked out Cameron Else last night in round two (see it again here), so the 135-pounder may want to step away from the buffet table in case UFC needs his services.
The event is set to be headlined by a highly-intriguing men’s Bantamweight showdown as Marlon Moraes (No. 1) faces off against Corey Sandhagen (No. 4) in a fight that will likely determine the next title challenger at 135 pounds. After Aljamain Sterling we presume.
