Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones has been accused of hiding from drug testers earlier in his career, like the time Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) tried to ambush “Bones” at the Jackson-Winkeljohn gym in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
According to longtime rival Chael Sonnen, Jones dove under the cage and hid from the commission until they eventually got tired of waiting and split. At the time, it was widely assumed Jones was afraid of getting popped for performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs) based on this subsequent test.
Which explains this recent dig from Israel Adesanya:
“Fun Facts! I napped under the cage in 2010 cuz I didn’t wanna waste gas going home so I stayed at the gym till evening training,” the UFC middleweight champ wrote on Twitter. “Jonathan stayed under the cage to hide from USADA during a random drug test. This is facts. Y’all must have forgot.”
Adesanya and Jones have been going back-and-forth over the last few weeks in what I can only assume is an attempt to generate interest in a potential fight. I would hate to think this is how they would normally conduct themselves but hey, who am I to judge.
Either way, Jones has finally set the record straight.
“I was hiding from Nevada State Athletic Commission, not USADA and that was years ago,” the ex-champ said. “I had just smoked a blunt and was afraid I would fail my test for weed. That’s the actual truth. Now everyone knows.”
Jones also asked Adesanya to “explain his titty” after this recent revelation.
This fight is being talked about for 2021 which gives Jones time to make his debut at heavyweight and Adesanya the opportunity to defend his middleweight strap against the winner of this fight, unless one of them loses and this all goes down the drain.
Might be worth it just to get them off Twitter.
