Check out the betting odds for tonight’s UFC Fight Island 5 event, where Cory Sandhagen is projected to get past Marlon Moraes in the main event.
It’s fight day for UFC Fight Island 5, going down tonight from Abu Dhabi, UAE. The top of the billing is getting a top-shelf bantamweight bout between the UFC’s #1 ranked, Marlon Moraes, and the #3 ranked, Cory Sandhagen, in a five-round affair. Bloody Elbow is here with the betting odds for this elite 135-pound matchup, as well as the rest of the UFC Fight Island 5 lineup.
We’ve got pretty tight odds in the main event. Cory Sandhagen is the one favored by oddsmakers, but it’s not by very much. A straight up wager on Sandhagen comes at a cost of about -132, so a $100 wager would payout about $175.76. That leaves Marlon Moraes in the underdog role, a position he has never lost in. Moraes straight up comes at a plus value of +128, so a $100 bet would payout about $228.00.
The over/under for this five-round fight has been set at 3.5 rounds. The ‘Under’ option owns a favored tag of -127, with a +112 comeback on the ‘Over.’ When Moraes does finish his opposition it does tend to be in the first-round. Aljamain Sterling, Jimmie Rivera, and Raphael Assuncao were all taken out in a combined time of four-minutes and fifty-seven seconds. That is downright astounding. Moraes can finish quickly, but is also tough to put away. He dropped a split decision to Assuncao in 2017, and then was finished a couple of years later late in the third-round by Henry Cejudo. We’ve yet to see him get swept early, and that’s because he’s an outstanding and elite fighter when his gas tank is full.
Sandhagen stopped Iuri Alcantara, who was just released by the UFC, with ground strikes in the second round, but has yet to finish off a true top-tier opponent. His lethality remains to be seen at the top of the division, but this is the first time in his UFC career that he will have five-rounds to let his volume striking game accumulate. Plus he will be doing so against someone who is known to fade. As for Sandhagen’s blemishes, he lost a unanimous decision to Jamall Emmers back in 2017, and then in his last outing was choked out by Aljo in just 88-seconds. We still haven’t seen Cory get out-classed on the feet, and don’t expect Marlon to come out with the same sort of gameplan that Sterling used against Sandhagen.
So, how does this all fit together in the scope of the over/under? Well, can Sandhagen survive the first round, and then can Moraes’ gas tank hold up for the next 2.5 rounds? If you think that the answer is ‘yes’ to both of these questions, then the ‘Over’ prop bet at plus odds might be your ticket. Otherwise, the ‘Under’ with minimal juice could be your look.
Ultimately, the bookies believe that this main event will be ending early. The proposition ‘Fight doesn’t go to decision’ sits with a strongly favored moneyline of -205, with the ‘Fight goes to decision’ option holding strong at a dog tag of +165. Gamblers can pick ‘Sandhagen wins inside distance’ for a value of +177, or grab up ‘Moraes wins inside distance’ for a slightly higher line of +185.
