Relevant facts, stats and numbers ahead of the main event of UFC Fight Island 6
According to UFC president Dana White, featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski will know who his next title defense will come against at the conclusion of Saturday’s UFC Fight Island 6.
The headlining bout on the fight card, which is a matchup between Brian Ortega and Chan Sung Jung, who is often referred to by his nickname “The Korean Zombie,” determines who Volkanovski will face.
“It’s absolutely the No. 1 contender fight,” said White. “First of all, this is the fight that should have happened a while ago. We’re finally here. With all the crazy stuff that’s happened — and crazy things have always happened in this business — for us to finally be here with The Zombie versus Ortega. Absolutely the winner of this fight should get the next title shot.”
Ortega and Jung were originally scheduled to meet at the end of 2019, but that fight fell through when Ortega suffered a knee injury.
