“The Notorious” Conor McGregor has opened up as the betting favorite in a potential rematch with Dustin “The Diamond” Poirier in possible rematch.
It appears as though everyone is on board with Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier running it back, and it’s only a matter of time before the details are sorted out and the contracts are signed. Naturally, betting odds have surfaced for this potential rematch, and Bloody Elbow is here to give them to you.
Online gambling site SportsInteraction.com has McGregor currently listed as a -180 (1.56) betting favorite, with Poirier being offered up as a +140 (2.40) underdog. McGregor was also favored the first time these athletes went at it, which took place in the featherweight division back at UFC 178 in 2014. Conor clocked in back then with a moneyline of around -280, with Poirier sporting a sizable underdog tag of +240. McGregor made quick work of Poirier, scoring the TKO at 1:46 into the opening round. That fight took place a really long time ago, and it’s fair to say that Dustin has gotten exponentially better since moving up to lightweight. The respect shown to Poirier by the oddsmakers this time around is well warranted.
McGregor is 22-4 in MMA and coming off of a sporty 40-second TKO of Donald Cerrone. A win over Poirier is mandatory if he ever hopes to get his long shot rematch with the UFC’s lightweight champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov. Poirier is 26-6 in his career, and coming off of a stellar decision win over Daniel Hooker. Both Conor and Dustin’s last defeats were rear-naked choke losses to Khabib.
