If you thought Jon Jones “but it was weed” story was rich, wait until you hear this.

Reigning Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) middleweight champion Israel Adesanya insists he won’t be putting on any extra weight when he jumps to the light heavyweight division, though at this point he may not have a choice.

Particularly if certain parts of his anatomy keep growing.

Adesanya, 31, raised a few eyebrows during his UFC 253 pay-per-view (PPV) main event against Paulo Costa last September, thanks to enlarged breast tissue that had combat sports fans — and rival fighters — speculating on his condition.

Blame Mary Jane!

“My pituitary gland was checked, hormone levels are fine, so are estrogen and testosterone,” Adesanya told Ariel Helwani (transcribed by Middle Easy). “Yesterday we had an ultrasound and a mammogram, I had one for the first time. To be honest it might have been unhealthy living a little bit. Like smoking weed, that’s what the doctor from the UFC said. He said I need to stop but I said I’m not stopping, I’m just going to slow down on the smoking weed.”

That certainly puts a damper on this news.

The 20-0 Adesanya has never failed a drug test under the UFC banner and has continued to improve with each performance. His next bout is expected to take place against light heavyweight champion Jan Blachowicz in early 2021, followed by a grudge match against Jon Jones.

Unless the winner of this bout can make a more convincing statement at UFC Vegas 13.
