Thiago Santos was extremely upset with his performance against Glover Teixeira at UFC Vegas 13.

Thiago Santos has released a statement expressing his disappointment over his loss to Glover Teixeira at UFC Vegas 13.

Santos (21-8) was defeated by Teixeira (32-7) by third-round submission this past weekend in the main event of UFC Vegas 13. It was the second consecutive loss for “Marreta” after he missed out on light heavyweight gold to Jon Jones by decision in July of last year.

In a statement Santos posted on his Instagram account, the Brazilian said he “choked” in the loss to Teixeira.

“I’m totally disappointed and embarrassed by my performance, I didn’t do anything I trained, I choked, I wasn’t the fighter I am,” Santos wrote. “I apologize to my coaches and team and thank everyone for their effort, you’re great.

“Thank you all for always being by my side. I’m sorry for letting you down this time. Thank you God for absolutely everything in my life. I’m more than blessed and I don’t even know if I deserve so much, my faith in you is unshakable.”

The 36-year-old Santos, who used to compete at middleweight, won four straight fights before his most recent losses.

Teixeira is hoping for a title shot at 205-pounds with the win over Santos. However, that remains in question after Israel Adesanya was set to move up in weight and challenge Blachowicz for his light heavyweight title.
